Ahmedabad to Diu is a classic coastal break for a lot of people in Gujarat. One day you are in city traffic, and by evening you are near the sea with slower roads and a very different vibe.
The drive is not extremely long, but it is not a quick 2 hour run either. If you plan a couple of proper breaks, it turns into a comfortable one day road trip. With your own car or a self drive car from Ahmedabad, you can leave early, avoid the rush, and reach Diu in time to catch the sunset on the beach.
There are a few route options, and exact distance can vary slightly based on which one you pick and where in Ahmedabad you start. Most routes pass through places like Botad, Amreli or Una side before entering Diu.
The roads are a mix of highway stretches and smaller state roads. In many parts they are decent, but you should still be ready for slower patches near towns and villages.
If you start around 5 to 6 AM, you can comfortably reach Diu by afternoon, check in, relax a bit and then step out for the first look at the sea.
Diu is small enough to explore at a relaxed pace, which is one of its main charms. Here are some spots most people include:
The most popular beach in Diu, with a long curve of sand and a few water activities in season.
Old Portuguese style fort with sea views, cannons and ramparts. Good place for a slow walk and photos.
A beautiful church and some old streets that still carry a Portuguese feel.
A Shiva temple right by the rocks where waves touch the lingams during high tide.
Various small viewpoints and less crowded beaches where you can just sit and listen to the sea.
In 2 or 3 days you can easily cover the main places, repeat your favorite beach, and still keep a lot of downtime.
